In the interplay of shot composition and sound design, tension is staged and resolved in an elegiac image of mourning.

A sudden gunshot ends the dialogue between the two soldiers  (> EMU 2). The volley of shots that follows on the level of sound design and a faster editing pace stage tension rising in jolts. With the end of the battle however, this tension is immediately resolved in an introspective moment. A melodramatic musical melody and markedly longer shots calm the audiovisual activity and prepare for the motif of mourning that follows. After a sudden peripeteia, the scene ends, underscored by strings, with an image of sacrifice; a staged, literal still life.
